Ok then.
WELCOME TO MY NEWSLETTER.
I’m a brazilian illustrator and comics artist. I have a more or less obsessive production in the fields of industrial and electronic music. To me the image thing and the sound thing are inseparable, not as an animation artifact, but as a interchangeable relation of moods and temperatures. It works like this: sometimes I try to draw like a Giacinto Scelsi piece of music; sometimes I try to make a song that sounds like a photo by August Sander.
This kind of approach help me to have ideas and decide what and how to do things. It helps also in other unavoidable practical aspects of life, like when I have to buy a pair of sneakers, something that I really hate to do. In moments like this I think "Which sneakers a hun would choose?" and everything becames easier.
This newsletter will present my works, the results of this way of thinking, and maybe you and others could bring more connections, problems and solutions. In general I'll write in english to be more, you know, international, but everyone can comment and I can answer in bad english, average portuguese or sad italian, even if my italian is worst than my english. When I post some comic in original portuguese, I'll put translations in english and italian.
So let's do this.
Piazada
A strip comic series inspired by Krazy Kat and other very old comics and cartoons. I don't even touched the level of revolutionary approach of comics from the 1920s and 1930s in terms of form, content and language - it was like silliness as science AND with deep philosophical and psychological undertones. Piazada is like a reverent echo, my humble hommage to this period.
Piá is a slang for kid in some parts of Brazil, a term very common in Curitiba, my hometown. Piazada is the collective, a bunch of kids.
The Reward / A Recompensa / La Ricompensa
The Adventures of the Young Reactionary
Inspired by the unfortunate phenomena of nerds, geeks and comics fans in general that love Superman in comics and movies, but in real life can vote for Lex Luthor without thinking twice. They collect everything related to Spider-Man, but in real life the role model is J. Jonah Jameson. You know, people who gets suddenly upset because a game like Wolfenstein is about shooting at nazis.
The character is some kind of homunculus, a creature that never achieves a definite form - he is immature even in the pictorial sense, a grown Eraserhead’s baby.
Superman
Superman. “Kal-El came from Krypton…” HAH! Illegal immigrant!
“Kal-El”. And on top of that, a jew. Kal-El. Kal MARX. Attention! At least he’s WHITE.
Will Lex Luthor, the prince of meritocracy, be able to save us from the spectre of victimism?
Superman. “Kal-El è venuto da Krypton…” HAH! Immigrante illegale!
"Kal-El". E per di più, un ebreo. Kal-El. Kal MARX. Attenzione! Almeno è BIANCO.
Riuscirà Lex Luthor, il principe della meritocrazia, a salvarci dallo spettro del vittimismo?
Tokkotai - 1000 Anos de Austeridade
This project is a kind of contemplative political techno. The album title, 1000 Anos de Austeridade, means 1000 Years of Austerity, a reference to the silly idea of Thousand Year Reich. Governments and economists have an authoritarian fetish in proclaiming a permanent state of austerity, always banging the bells of anxiety, because crisis is the language of Capitalism. In this perennial kingdom of insecurity we must celebrate successive cuts in education, healthcare, workers’ rights - and accept, with great resignation, the infinite magical money printing for banks and weapons.
So this is the cheery album’s concept. Enjoy!
