My comic book is coming!
Is it too pedantic to call it a graphic novel? A Pictorial romance? A literary sequential art narrative?
Well, well, well…
The pandemic isn’t over, you didn't even have time to scratch your butt and here we are with a big, ugly, smelly bloody WAR bringing back some not-very-old fears. Not one of those vulgar little wars involving peripheral actors, but a conflict of big proportions with real blond people, some of the whitest people you’ve ever seen, with blue eyes and everything. Sure, there are some exceptions, but Hell, the West is very sensitive with this concept of “they are christians like us, they shop like us, godammit”.
Maybe it would be better think less about this ancient dispute between civilizations, West X East, Europe X Asia. Just take a look at the maps: you can see Europe as this bunch of funny countries with more or less in common, divided by historical and cultural idiosyncrasies like which cheese is stinkier, who gets more affected by silly decisions made in consequence of ruling by inbred royal crooks and all the little disputes about who is more racist and who has more divine rights to steal the others. OR you can look at Europe as the biggest Asia’s peninsula. That thing called PERSPECTIVE, geographic and historical.
But the good-guy sheriff talking from the West still continues to be in terms of China being like the Planet Mongo and the russians, well, as THE RUSSIANS, because Communism is bad and all that bullshit. It does not matter that China is far from being a Dictatorship of the Proletariat and that Putin is a Capitalist Czar with a lot of help from the “Free World”. If only Europe were not USA’s bitch (the UK already has this function)…
And now we have to buy this eccentric idea of Zelensky as some kind of Millenium’s Disney Pope, a supermascot saint from the wheat fields of Ukraine. Oversimplification is a weapon, brothers and sisters! Who are we to discuss complex questions in Geopolitics, like who will play Zelensky in the movie about the invasion of Ukraine? How to drive a very old russian tank?
Anyway
So the timing is perfect to launch a comic book! LA GRANDE CROCIATA (The Great Crusade / A Grande Cruzada) is set to be released in April 13, published by NeoComics. There is no good news if it is not medieval news!
LA GRANDE CROCIATA is my Middle Ages delirium inspired by the more or less legendary Children’s Crusade.
The first part was published in Brazil in 2015 with a heretical joint venture of crowdfunding and the publisher Editora Devaneio. I reworked some portions from the first part and then added a freshly made second part, resulting in 200 pages and a bigger format than the first edition.
Will LA GRANDE CROCIATA be published in countries other than Italy? I don’t know. I hope so.
And all that jazz neoclassical martial industrial
The promovideo above is accompanied by an excerpt of Predestinado ao Mérito, a track from Obsoleto’s album O Convicto.
Obsoleto is predominantly inspired by Laibach and Test Dept, not only musically, but as a broader aestethic and political action. Working with paradoxes as being martial and antimilitarist, using totalitarian language against totalitarianism, in this project I have a dadaist approach with sounds and those sounds can be something I programmed (“composed” would be rather pompous) , recorded or collected from other sources. Or: how a Hanna Höch’s collage would sound like? Because I have a fever, a Weimar Republic fever.
O Convicto (The Convinced) is an album inspired by the mock trials aiming at Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and others from his party in Brazil. The so called Operation Car Wash, a full retarded lawfare effort led by a team of crooked judges and prosecutors backed by the USA, started as an elite press favorite show, fueled by the motto we don't have proof, but we have conviction, and ended up being what it always was: a kind of stage adaptation of Kafka’s The Trial by The Three Stooges.
